An athlete messing around with the job base in their market, current or former, is one of the most disgusting things they can do. It's exactly the reason I hate the franchise player of my hometown team in the one sport I care about. He's the best player they've ever had and I love seeing him lose.

The Mariners whole brand is "We're not that good, but we are a bunch of good guys." The team has always sold the players personas rather than a playoff appearance. It was inevitable for that to turn sour when the curtains fell.

I normally don't like patreon stuff for youtube content, but I really like how you guys are approaching this. Making the same content available, but only later for free users. I hope this ends up being a home run for you guys, you make some of the most interesting stuff on youtube, even for a non-sportsfan. I think of all the videos you've put out, your team history videos are the ones I enjoyed the most. But they also probably take the most work, and are definitely the longest in running time. So I understand if you can't really pump those out more than once or twice a year. They're worth waiting for.

I was at Safeco for the return of Alex in 2001. The amount of hate and virtriol was palpable. People hung out after the game to sling back beers and call him every name in the book even though he had long since left the field. It was great.

I think you can make a Beef History about A-Rod and Boston too, then again, you can probably do one about A-Rod and any city. But watching this, I realized one thing. A-Rod betrayed the Mariners, the very next season they tied the Major League wins record (pity about the ALCS though but still), then in 2004 he wasted the Red Sox time and all they did was reverse the curse. So for that, thanks A-Rod!

How did I miss this for 9 months?! Looking forward to learning about the team before 98 and then being reminded of the heartbreaks that followed.

I grew up loving Alex Rodriguez back in the late 90s when I was just a young Mariners fan and I also grew to hate him after he left. Now that I'm older and wiser, I can confidently say that Mariner fans need to let go of the A-Rod hate. Yes, he made a decision based solely on greed and he's a very egotistical person. However, I'm not entirely convinced the 2001 season would end up the same or better with A-Rod on the team taking up that much payroll. A-Rod has been out of the league for years now and seems (or at least acts) regretful of his decisions. It's time to move on from the bitterness and embrace A-Rod as one of the greatest players in Seattle history.
